While many outsiders may think that’s a bad thing, the truth is that “The Great One” just wasn’t that great of a coach. His record over his 4-year tenure was only better than 2 other teams (St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings) and his style of “my system is no system” just didn’t work.

Luckily, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. It was rumored shortly after Gretzky stepped down and later confirmed that former Dallas Stars head coach Dave Tippett would step in to fill the void. Tippett has a championship in the IHL with the 1999 Houston Aeros and playoff experience in the NHL, including a visit to the conference finals in 2007 with the Stars.

A new era has begun in Phoenix; the Dave Tippett era. Time will tell how he does, but I’m feeling even more excited for the season to start now!

A little package from the Phoenix Coyotes Hockey Club! Inside, not season tickets… But a season ticket holder card. Turns out, we take this card to the arena and get our tickets at each game. One card per household. We have two season tickets, for the wife and myself, and just the one card. It’s a novel approach… I just hope I don’t lose the card! Good news, it’s also good for 15% off the Coyotes gift shop! What color jersey should I get next and, more importantly, what name & number?
